Progress as at March 2008

RM5 is slowly but surely beginning to resemble its former self. The framing at the rear of the cab is now in place and the majority of the roof has been attached. Work has come to a brief halt while we await an engineering report to ascertain the final requirements to get the railcar back in to mainline operation.

Meanwhile, RM31 has had almost all of the small jobs completed that need to be done to achieve mainline certification. All that remains is the paperwork to be finished and inspection and test running. We are confident that this will be completed in time for the North Isaland Main Trunk Centennial celebrations in October this year.

Work has continued on the front of RM 5 with all the framework now having been finished and welded. Fitting of the wood framing on the front half of the car is now well underway and the rest of the roof ply will be fitted very soon.

Progress as at June 2005

Bernard Watson and Graham Gordon have been busy lately installing the roof lining as can be seen in this photo.

March 13 saw one of our best turnouts yet on a regular workday and as a result, a great deal of progress was achieved.

The growing collection of overhauled components for the replacement Standard Railcar bogie are beginning to fill up the sturdy metal shelving that has come in handy for the purpose.
